LUMS Welcomes Students for Orientation 2022

LUMS O WEEK

Orientation at LUMS is always an exciting time in a new academic year. New students are inducted into a vibrant community of current students, alumni, professors, and staff during a week of activities and events planned to help them feel right at home on campus that continues for the remainder of the term.

This year, LUMS welcomed a diverse group of 1,100 students from 136 different villages, towns, and cities across Pakistan and beyond. Parents of incoming students also joined the orientation week and were invited to get to know more about the campus and learn about the LUMS experience.

In an opening message to students, Dr. Arshad Ahmad, Vice Chancellor said, “LUMS is an ecosystem full of opportunities where you can form lifelong relationships with peers and teachers to achieve personal and professional goals and the experience of a lifetime.”

These opportunities to connect and form new bonds were at the centre of an activity-packed week. From interactive icebreakers and team-building sessions and meetings with faculty about academic life, to exploring student societies and engaging with members of LUMS leadership, new students were given the opportunity to get a feel for what they can expect from their LUMS education.

Hasham, the student president of Orientation expressed his excitement, "Organising this year's Orientation as the President was nothing short of an extraordinary experience. The hard work that the team put in together came to life as I saw those smiles on the first-years' faces; that was the moment everything felt worth it."

LUMS owes a huge thank-you to the Office of Student Affairs and the dedicated team of student coaches who planned and carried out all the activities. The Peer Ambassador at LUMS for Social Support (PALs) also played a key role in mentoring groups of new students throughout the entire week. They will continue to mentor their respective groups of new students as they transition to university life. We are also grateful to the numerous alumni who volunteered to host career counselling sessions for incoming students to consider potential careers for the future.

Dr. Adnan Zahid, Dean, Office of Student Affairs, remarked about his learnings from the event. He said, “This year we executed a very balanced orientation programme. Students were introduced to all the essential support services, were provided with a holistic overview of their respective academic journeys, participated in engaging sessions with the student societies and were facilitated in the process of making new friends. These are just a few of the many ways that LUMS takes care to support student success and well-being during their time here."
