LUMS Vice Chancellor and Co-Authors Honoured for Groundbreaking Study on Women Voters in Pakistan
LUMS is proud to announce that Dr. Ali Cheema, Vice Chancellor, along with his co-authors, have received a Luebbert Best Article Honorable Mention from the American Political Science Association Comparative Politics section. The acclaimed research, 'Canvassing the Gatekeepers: A Field Experiment to Increase Women Voters’ Turnout in Pakistan', was written in collaboration with Dr. Shandana Khan Mohmand, Senior Fellow, Institute of Development Studies (IDS), University of Sussex; Dr. Sarah Khan, Assistant Professor, Yale University; and Dr. Asad Liaqat, Research Scientist, Meta.
Published in the American Political Science Review, a premier political science scholarly research journal, this groundbreaking study highlights the influence of male gatekeepers on women's voting participation in Pakistan. It also emphasises the importance of engaging men to improve political outcomes for women in patriarchal societies.
The award committee commended the article, noting its outstanding contribution among a highly competitive field of nominations. The recipients will be honoured for their work at a reception in Pennsylvania, USA on September 5, 2024.
The article was also previously featured in VoxDev, a leading global platform for research, which engages economists, policymakers, practitioners, and other stakeholders in key policy discussions.
